You can get OpenOffice for free. And, you can also use Google's online apps to open various MS Files.

But, fact is, there are some things MS Office 2007 does really well. I am willing to pay for good software - and I definitely can make use of some of the advanced features in the new Office 2007 package. But, for many things, the free Open Office suite does the trick, and some other things (perhaps the one you mention - I have no experience with it) can also meet the need.
Thanks for feedback.Mike Eberharthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16410014970702142362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28009703.post-12034989494645171812007-01-28T21:45:00.000-05:002007-01-28T21:45:00.000-05:00Projity has a complete replacement of Microsoft Pr...Projity has a complete replacement of Microsoft Project in the browser. It is available immediately and is only $7.99/month. Why would you go through all this hassle installing, upgrading, configuring and buying all this software ? Why not just use SaaS software like Projity's Project-ON-Demand. It is available on Linux, Unix, Mac or Windows in a browser..... makes sense to me for $7.99 a month and you can open existing native Microsoft files.Marchttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14154467246079242621noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28009703.post-69317507600977237962007-01-28T09:24:00.000-05:002007-01-28T09:24:00.000-05:00Sheri, I'm glad it was helpful. You're welcome! ...Sheri, I'm glad it was helpful. You're welcome! If you want to get a jump on the Office 2007 functionality, MS does have the free-trial downloads available.

I tend to be an early adopter of software, and I have yet to get a feel for how many clients and companies will be using Office 2007 any time soon. If you are lucky, maybe you're office will soon have it to use.

One notable item I forgot to cover is how the native file-formats are now different. This could cause some headaches when using in mixed-version environments for a while, as you'd have to remember to "save as..." in a prior version format for others to use. I remember going through this back in earlier Office versions.Mike Eberharthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16410014970702142362noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28009703.post-1501501102331296892007-01-26T18:18:00.000-05:002007-01-26T18:18:00.000-05:00As an executive assistant that lives on MSO daily,...As an executive assistant that lives on MSO daily, thank you!Sherihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00381741595065161784noreply@blogger.com
