Koran-Burning Threat : Media Made it Powerful

I do not know if you are aware of the Florida pastor's plan to perform a mass Koran / Quran burning on 9/11/2010, but you probably are thanks the the MEDIA giving this guy so much attention.  Muslim anti-Americanism and the threat of "retaliation" (and, of course, not in a one-for-one burning of Christian Bibles, but more likely bloodshed) became so bad, thanks to the media, that even President Obama and Secretary of Defense Gates had to make personal appeals to this pastor to not burn the Qurans as planned.

The media (as I was watching the evening news last night) was saying things like (paraphrased) "it is amazing how this otherwise unknown nobody pastor in FL can get the attention of the World and bring so much anti-Americanism and fear of terror upon us,... yada, yada"...    DON'T MIND THAT THE MEDIA IS WHAT MADE IT POSSIBLE!

This pastor played the media like a fiddle!
Want to blame someone for the anti-Americanism, add blame for the media giving this guy a much larger voice than he ever would have had... in fact, nearly nobody would have heard about him if it were not for the darn media coverage, and surely the overseas Muslims would not have heard about this guy!

I am all for freedom of speech, but when someone is saying things that may provoke some serious "retaliation" (again, not likely to be a Bible-burning in this case) against the rest of us, the media needs to perhaps let the "story" never become a "story" by simply ignoring it and not playing into the situation.  It is not worth putting our troops, and the public at large, into harms way just because media management teams need a "story" so badly.

The FL pastor is, in a bizarre way, quite the powerful guy, all thanks to the MEDIA!  He'd have been a nobody else wise.  Too bad the media could not let him remain a nobody.  Enough said.

I agree with you. But sometimes when the news media ignores other stories, another outlet comes along and screams, "Why isn't the MSM paying attention to this?" I think they're in a Catch-22 sometimes.
