Legalized Age Discrimination

Legalized Age Discrimination does exist. Look no further than your government for great examples.

I was just reading a Psychology journal that happens to have job-advertisements in the back, and as I perused the various job openings I came across one from the US Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons. This particular Staff Psychologist job at a US penitentiary in Hazelton, WV says:

The Attorney General has determined that the initial appointment of employees into Federal BOP law enforcement positions must be prior to their 37th birthday. However, waivers can be obtained for highly qualified applicants up to the date immediately preceding their 40th birthday.
WOW, they'll make an exception perhaps and even hire a 40-year-old!

This is just plain crap! And, it typifies US law - how there exists one set of laws that our government must follow, and another set that individuals and private companies must follow. There are many other cases of age discrimination within government positions, and I find it detestable on a few levels, especially for the hypocrisy that exists when this same government dictates a different set of rules for the rest of us.
